Hamster Class Ages 5-7
Hamster Class (Ages 5-7)
Our 5- to 7-year-old class is called Hamsters because 10 minutes into her first class teaching this age group, Sabum Montaño exclaimed, “This is like trying to teach hamsters to kick and punch!”, and the name stuck.
What to Expect
This class is suitable for children who have completed Jr. kindergarten.
Classes are kept small and wait-listed if needed to ensure each student receives full instruction in the authorized curriculum. This means that promotions may take longer, but hamsters achieve each new rank comparable to their older peers.
Classes have plenty of opportunities for play to keep the environment engaging without the use of hamster wheels!
This class is different than after-school care programs because it is not daycare, it is a formal martial arts class. The goal is for each student to be as technically proficient at their rank as any other student of Montaño TKD, regardless of age. This also means that as Hamsters age out of the program, they make a smooth transition into the Juniors classes.
Classes are half an hour twice a week, and utmost care is taken with our neurodivergent Hamsters so that they recognize their own possible limitations, how to achieve their goals within them, and advocate for themselves in class and in all areas of their life. Having an AuDHD brain herself and being the mother of two AuDHD children, Sabum Montaño prioritizes confidence and positivity with all Hamsters. If your child needs specific accommodations, please reach out to Sabum to put those in place before your Hamsters first class.
